Intent
A consultancy office planned around a planted courtyard, so the working floor always has something green in view. Full-height glazing runs between the open workspace and the courtyard, and the meeting area sits along the same edge, which gives every part of the floor daylight from the garden side.
Language
A timber ceiling detail over linear pendants, full-height glass to the courtyard, and paving that carries the line of the interior floor out into the planting. The built surfaces stay quiet, so the garden and the daylight are what the room is actually finished with.
Features
- 01
The courtyard
A paved path runs through planting at the centre of the plan. It is the reference point for everything around it: it brings daylight deep into the floor plate, gives the office a middle distance to look into, and keeps the working areas from facing each other directly.
- 02
Open workspace
Full-height glazing opens the desks onto the courtyard, so the outlook from a workstation is planting rather than another workstation. Daylight enters along the whole glazed edge and needs little supplementing through the working day.
- 03
Meeting area
A timber ceiling detail marks the meeting zone overhead without walls, and linear pendants hang above the table to fix its position on the floor. The space is contained by ceiling and light rather than by partitions, so the plan stays open.
- 04
Courtyard edge
Because the rooms are set around the courtyard, movement through the office runs beside the glazing. The planting gives orientation on the way between spaces, and the connection to the outside stays continuous instead of arriving only at the windows.
Specification
- Ceiling
- Timber detail over the meeting area
- Glazing
- Full-height glass to the courtyard
- Landscape
- Paved path, courtyard planting
- Tones
- Warm timber, neutral surfaces, green
Daylight arrives through the full-height courtyard glazing and reaches most of the floor. Linear pendants hang low over the meeting table, so the general working light stays even and the meeting light is local to it.

In closing
A small office that spends part of its plan on a garden. The courtyard costs floor area and returns daylight, quiet, and an outlook that changes through the day rather than staying the same from nine to five.
